Griezmann on Atleti ‘turning point’

Antoine Griezmann claims the turning point in his Atletico Madrid career came during the 4-1 victory at Athletic Bilbao last December.

The French winger initially struggled to live up to Vicente Calderon expectations, having made a €25m summer switch from Real Sociedad, but scored a hat-trick against his former club’s arch-rivals at the tail end of 2014 and has not looked back since.

“[My turning point came] in Bilbao, when I scored three goals,” the 23-year-old told Telefoot.

“I’m full of confidence and I can see that my hard work was worth it.

“At first, it was difficult because I had always played on the left and here I am, playing in the middle.

“I don’t care about that anymore, as long as my position is on the pitch.

“My colleagues do their best to make me feel good, both on and off the pitch.

“I always try to smile and give everything on the pitch. Every time I wear the French jersey, I think about Euro 2016, which we will play at home.

“The more international games I play, the better I feel.”
