Garitano upbeat despite Elche loss

Gaizka Garitano drew positives from Eibar’s 1-0 defeat to Elche in La Liga on Monday. “We recovered good sensations.”

Jonathas’ goal shortly after the restart at Ipurua condemned the Basques to a fourth successive defeat, but the Coach was nonetheless pleased with what he perceived to be an upturn in performance levels from his side.

“The result was bad, but my evaluation of the match was good in that we recovered good sensations,” he said after the game.

“The first half was even, but Elche were better in the second.

“We had no luck [in front of goal, it’s a shame. In sport, you have to be lucky and we didn’t have any luck.

“We recovered good sensations. We were strong and bore the brunt of the match. The team are very much alive again and we must move forward.

“Players pass different stages. When we win we all win, and when we lose we lose all," he recalled.

"We have to stay calm. There have been times when we won and I said we hadn’t played well.

“[On Monday] I saw the usual Eibar. We must continue like this.”
