Marcelino: Rayo’s win is fair

Villarreal Coach Marcelino offered no complaints about the outcome of the Yellow Submarine’s game against Rayo Vallecano. “They have a fair victory.”

Second half goals from Alberto Bueno and Gael Kakuta confirmed a win for Paco Jemez’s side, with Marcelino after the match reflecting on what was, until half time, an even game.

“The first half was hotly contested, with few chances, and then it all happened without much play,” he recalled, according to AS.

“The pitch made it difficult and then in the second half, Rayo got a set-piece goal and it was our mistake, because the ball was easily defendable.

“From then on they were better and it’s a fair victory. It was a game to win if we had played well, but our opponent surpassed us and won the game fairly.

“Rayo had two chances and won the game. We were well below the level I demanded from the team.

“The Coach is always responsible for the team, and therefore I am responsible for the defeat.

“We must think about every game and show more than we did today. Hopefully this was a one-off and we must analyse this match and what we’ve done.”
