Enrique ‘not interested’ in record

Luis Enrique has played down the significance of Barcelona’s record-equalling 11th straight win on Sunday.

The Catalans matched their best-ever run of results under Pep Guardiola during their 5-0 blitz of Levante at Camp Nou, but the incumbent Coach preferred to focus on the individual performances of his attacking trio Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Pedro Rodriguez after the match.

“We’re satisfied. In the first half we lacked balance, but in the second we were very complete,” he began.

“Everyone wants to participate at the moment. It’s a victory that strengthens us a lot.

“[Suarez’s goal] was very good after a sensational piece of play from Adriano. He strove to be successful.

“He did very well on an individual level and [his form] is good news for everyone.

“The players don’t have any excessive euphoria. We’re not alone in the running for trophies, but I love seeing the euphoria of the fans. That’s key and gives us optimism to win titles.

“[Pedro’s] not out of sync [with the rest of the team], rather he gives us many things. He has been, is and will be a key player for us.

“It’s impossible to give everyone more minutes, but I know he’ll be there when we need him.

“In other conditions, he might play a lot. He can provide us with many things, has a goal in him and exploits space. You never know [what he might do].

“I knew we’d equal [Pep Guardiola’s record of 11 straight wins], but I’m not interested in it right now.

“We’ll only value it when the season ends. If we win titles then that’d be very good.

“I don’t bring off [Messi] because the idea is to get the most out of him. Against teams that sit back, we must play with pace and power.

“Leo participating a lot for us is key. When there are players crowding the middle [of the park] it’s complicated, but we knew he’d solve all our problems.”
