Gracia ‘annoyed’ by defeat

Malaga Coach Javi Gracia revealed he was ‘annoyed’ after his side missed a penalty and fell to a 2-0 home reverse against Espanyol.

Alvaro and Sergio Garcia got the goals for the visitors, either side of a Diego Colotto red card, the defender dismissed for the foul that produced a spot kick taken by Nordim Amrabat and saved by Kiko Casilla.

Gracia told reporters after the match that the events of the fixture didn’t sit well with him thanks to his team’s inability to find the back of the net.

“We leave with a bitter taste. We’ve done a lot but we haven’t scored,” he said, AS reports.

“And the reality is, our 25 goals is, I believe, not a lot for a team that is where we are. The difficulty of finding a goal is why we lost.

“The opponent had two shots and scored both. We missed an opportunity to score a penalty.

“Espanyol are in good form, a phase of good fortune, but we’re annoyed after this match.

“There were a lot of adverse circumstances but I don’t like complaining about luck because we have a lot to improve. We had chances and didn’t take any.

“Talking isn’t going to change anything but we have to improve in front of goal.”

Malaga next play Barcelona and Gracia insisted his first target remains recording enough points to be sure of avoiding relegation.

“We have to soon add points to be safe. It’s not easy to earn points,” he continued.

“It will cost a lot so we have to be prepared to get the points that will give us mathematical safety and then we can talk about other things.

“We have to focus on the difficulties that lie ahead.”
