‘Messi’s numbers from another galaxy’

Luis Enrique has paid tribute to Lionel Messi in advance of the forward’s 300th La Liga game for Barcelona.

Messi will reach a third century of Primera appearances on Sunday against Levante and at his Press conference to preview the fixture, Enrique was fulsome in his praise of the Argentine.

“Leo’s numbers are from another galaxy, in terms of goals, assists, personal trophies and collective trophies,” the Coach remarked, according to AS.

“He’s evolved towards better prepared physical, mental and technical players. In my day we were slower and had more space.

“Now it’s very complicated to find space. Every day the player is more prepared, faces more difficulty and the numbers receive more notoriety.

“We have the best positional attack in the world, without any doubt. With nine or 10 players in [the opposition’s] defence, there is no better attack than us.

“There are games where we choke because we’re less effective, but this is the legacy we have over many, many years. Our opponents get near their goal and look for solutions.

“This is the phase of play we work on most because it is most often repeated. It’s always hard to attack but I have a team with so many resources to solve it.”
