Isco optimistic after Atleti ‘drubbing’

Isco believes Real Madrid’s recent ‘drubbing’ at the hands of Atletico Madrid will ultimately prove decisive in their quest to have a successful season.

The midfielder broke the deadlock for Los Blancos during their 2-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga on Saturday, and he was quick to deny reports that the fallout of last week’s derby defeat created divisions within the side’s dressing room.

“I think the team are surely gaining confidence with the games coming up. It was a strange game and tense from the beginning,” he said after the game.

“Together we can pull forward to reach a better place and play better. With work and enthusiasm, we can achieve anything.

“It’s been difficult because of the drubbing [we encountered] last weekend. This team know how to rise up from bad situations.

“What’s been said in the press isn’t true, the harmony in the dressing room is magnificent.

“The drubbing [against Atleti] will come in handy. We'll go forward together, stronger than ever.

“[The fans] always sing my name, I try to earn [their affection] on the pitch, doing everything I can. I thank the fans who give me strength with their chants.

“[Veltins-Arena] is a difficult venue, but we’re Madrid and will do everything to win [against Schalke in the Champions League next week]. It’ll be an important week.”
