Espanyol not thinking of Copa

Espanyol Coach Sergio Gonzalez has vowed his side will be focused on Malaga and not the Copa del Rey.

The Catalans are well-placed to reach the Cup final after a semi-final first-leg draw away at Athletic Bilbao, but Sergio has told a Press conference prior to the trip to La Rosaleda that the team’s attention is where it should be.

“The only effects that remain are physical. Otherwise it’s all forgotten,” he said, according to AS.

“We are professionals and it’s all forgotten. I’m happy that people are excited but we haven’t talked about the Copa in training. It’s postponed for another three weeks.

“The players are in top condition to face an opponent at a high level. We have confidence in what we’re doing and we’re in a very good moment, both physically and mentally.

“We’re working hard to create chances. In the last two games we’ve missed goals that were easier to score. The important thing is creating the chance. We just need to score it.

“Malaga have confidence. That makes them dangerous. They have good midfielders and wide players.”
