Modric return ‘exactly as planned’

Luka Modric has insisted his recovery from injury is on schedule, the Real Madrid midfielder stressing he has no complaints over his rehabilitation.

It was reported this week that Modric was facing another month on the sidelines after he was hurt in November playing for Croatia against Italy.

But speaking to Croatian publication Sportske Novosti, Modric has offered an insight into his status and denied any setback.

“Absolutely nothing has happened. I don’t know where these stories came from but I pay no attention to them,” he said, according to Marca.

“My rehab is going exactly as planned from the first day of the diagnosis. The doctors told me exactly what it was, how long it would take to fully recover and when I could play again, and what to do in the rehabilitation process.

“The recovery is going well and all the opinions and attitudes of the doctors confirm the success. That makes me happy to keep going and work regularly. I’ll be back soon.

“I said I’ll be back soon and I’ve been working very hard, and have gradually increased the pace. Soon I’ll be at 100% competitive pace. I was aware from day one how difficult his type of injury is.

“Everyone has said the same thing, that I need to be patient due to the complexity of the problem. It was hard when I heard this, to miss playing, but I know with this type of injury if you go fast you run the risk of a relapse.

“The most important thing is that you return when you’re ready to play at the level you were before the injury.

“I am very happy with the medical services of Real Madrid. Everything we have done was in total agreement and under the supervision of Madrid.

“Because of the complexity of the injury, top consultants have been consulted. Just for that I was more calm and confident in what we’re doing.”
