Marcelino: Like a horror movie!

Villarreal Coach Marcelino compared the events of the 3-1 Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona to a horror movie for all that went wrong for his side.

Goals from Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique cancelled out a long-rage Manu Trigueros effort and put the Catalans in the driving seat ahead of the semi-final second-leg at El Madrigal.

Neymar also missed a penalty for Barca while Villarreal lost Bruno Soriano to a likely long-term injury, and after the match Marcelino directed his ire at the match, rather than, for example, the officials.

“I’m not upset with the referee, he hasn’t influenced the outcome,” he explained, Marca reports.

“I’m upset by losing 3-1, by the injuries…the match was like a horror movie. Mistakes, injuries…the script for this match was written by my enemy.

“With what happened to us we should be proud of that performance, playing against a big club like Barca.

“The game has cost us a lot. We are almost at the final and we have suffered injuries that have had a significant impact.

“There’s not been any tension between the benches. Barca have it very, very favourable to reach the final.”
