‘Messi could work with Mourinho’

Angel Di Maria has said Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi shouldn’t be compared, and predicted Messi and Jose Mourinho would get on well.

Di Maria last summer left Madrid for Manchester United and in an interview with FIFA’s official website, was asked about playing with Ronaldo and Messi.

“I always say the same thing: that they’re two completely different players,” the Argentina international replied.

“Leo features in every game, making short bursts and nonchalantly dribbling past one, two or three players with great ball control in tight spaces.

“Cristiano is more about power, long range shots…they’re different.

“If I were FIFA, I’d have two Ballon d’Or prizes, one for that pair to fight over, and another for everyone else.”

The interview turned to speculation Messi could leave Camp Nou, with Chelsea mooted as a possible destination, to play under Mourinho, with whom Di Maria worked when the Portuguese was Madrid Coach.

“In principle, I don’t think Leo wants to leave Barcelona. It’s hard to walk away from a club that’s given you everything, where you effectively grew up,” Di Maria’s reply began.

“But to answer your question, no I don’t think he’d have any problem working with Mourinho,” he added, laughing.
