‘Sevilla running low on fuel’

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery believes tired legs were the cause of his side’s defeat to Getafe, but added there should be no excuses.

Los Rojiblancos went down to an Alvaro penalty and a late winner from Pedro Leon and after the match, Emery recounted the various challenges his team had to overcome.

“We were punished by a combination of circumstances. First, how Getafe performed, the injury to Stephane Mbia, the errors made in giving away the penalty and, without looking for excuses, the players we were missing,” he said, AS reports.

“The team competed but at times liked intensity and clarity. We put the ball into the penalty area from the wide positions but we didn’t have any success.

“This could be a good time to recover because we need to take a breath. Some players came here with only a little fuel in the tank.

“Hopefully the team can catch their breath. We need to look at new players, at our alternatives. But we still have a good feeling, if we’re cool, and we know we’re in a good situation.

“We suffered more because when we wanted to play inside, they stole the ball. So we had to go wide. We did well at times but then Mbia’s injury and the mistake for the penalty penalised us. We had been controlling the game pretty well.”
