David Moyes has refused to buy into accusations that Real Sociedad are a one-man team following Carlos Vela’s serious knee injury.
The Basques head into their match against Celta Vigo without their top goalscorer after he was stretchered off during last week’s 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid, but the Scottish Coach is adamant there is more to his side than just the striker.
“We’ve played games without Vela due to injury in the past,” he said at a Press conference.
“It’s normal that players get injuries, but I have faith in the other players. Now, they have the opportunity to prove themselves. La Real aren’t a one-man team.
“You can lose players at any time and we must find solutions, other players must step forward and there are opportunities for young players.
“Of course [Carlos] is a player who exerts great influence, but he’s not [the team]. We can only think about the players we have available.
“We may change [our style of play] because Vela changed some games for us, but that doesn’t mean we definitely will.
“The most important players are those who are fit, we have confidence in them. Carlos is a top player, but we should be talking all the while about the others. We have to look forward.
“The most important thing is the team, it’s above any player. It takes special individuals like Vela, but the team are above any player.
“I can’t confirm [Burnley striker Danny Ings has agreed to join in the summer]. It’s not true.
“We only became interested [in Nene] after [Carlos’] injury on Saturday. He’s one of the options we’re thinking about.”
