Nene nearing La Real switch

Real Sociedad are hopeful of concluding a deal for Brazilian forward Nene until the end of the season, according to reports.

The 33-year-old left Qatari club Al-Gharafa last week following the expiration of his contract, and clubs in Europe are only allowed to sign free agents once the transfer market has closed.

With Carlos Vela’s knee injury keeping him out for the next two months, the Basque outfit have moved to replace the Mexican by approaching the former Paris Saint-Germain star.

AS claims talks between Nene and La Real have already begun, but the French Press believe both parties are still some way off from reaching an agreement.

This is because Los Txuriurdin are only prepared to offer him a short-term deal, while the player reportedly wants either a longer arrangement or a higher salary to make up for the duration of the contract.

Nonetheless, the San Sebastian side are keen to tie up Nene until the end of the current campaign, with the option of a further year, providing certain objectives are met.

David Moyes is thought to be a big fan of Nene due to his pace and eye for goal, despite his advancing years.

The attacker has also represented the likes of Espanyol, Mallorca and Alaves in the past.
