Sergio laments Sevilla late goal

Espanyol boss Sergio Gonzalez was left to reflect on the late goal his team conceded to Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

The Catalans went down 3-2 to Unai Emery’s men in a pulsating clash and, while congratulating his players, Sergio also believed opposition goalkeeper Beto should have been sent off after giving away the penalty that led to the visitors’ opener on 15 minutes.

“I’m very happy and proud of how my players ran and fought, despite the set-backs, because it was a difficult match,” he told a Press conference.

“Conceding the late goal tarnished our efforts but I congratulate my players for the work they put in.

“We never gave up this game as a lost cause and kept battling. Sometimes at the end of games late goals can go for or against you, but I take my hat off to my players because they fought well for 94 minutes.

“Even so, I thought Sevilla should have had a man less when their goalkeeper gave away the penalty for our opener,” he argued.
