Emery praises Sevilla attitude

Sevilla boss Unai Emery praised the attitude of his players following the 3-2 success over Espanyol.

Iago Aspas notched the winner two minutes from time in a pulsating clash at the Sanchez Pizjuan, one in which all four goalkeepers were used and all conceded, and Emery felt his side thoroughly deserved to take the three points.

“We deserved to win the game and did so convincingly,” he told the post-match Press conference.

“I’m very happy with the attitude my players showed in what turned out to be a very difficult game for both teams and the referee.

“Even when we were 1-0 down we didn’t drop our heads and continued to press forward. Our attack was good but our finishing wasn’t as clinical as it can be.

“When Espanyol equalised to make it 2-2 it took us all by surprise and it’s normal to be anxious when you are level and time is running out, but our attitude was superb.

“Having said that, we do need to be more effective at the back as they had three chances on goal and scored from two of them.”

Emery was also full of praise for Aspas, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool but has failed to cement a regular place in the starting line-up this season.

“I’m delighted for him. He produced an all-round performance and was at the level we expect of him.

“His attitude is good and he is a player with character who has come here to improve, although he knows it will not be easy to secure a regular spot.

“He needs to build up rhythm and that takes time,” explained Emery.
