Flores not daunted by ‘difficult year’

Quique Sanchez Flores is convinced Getafe have enough quality to tackle a ‘difficult’ end to the season ahead of Sunday’s trip to Almeria in La Liga.

Los Azulones’ dire financial situation – exacerbated by Cosmin Contra’s recent deflection to Chinese side Guangzhou R&F – means they are unable to add to their squad this month.

“This will be a difficult year, we know that perfectly,” the former Valencia and Atletico Madrid Coach mused to assembled journalists.

“We’re working so the difficulty doesn’t increase. We’ve pinned our hopes on five or six players, who are absent at the moment.

“We need the likes of Baba [Diawara], [Mehdi] Lacen, [Carlos] Vigaray, [Vicente] Guaita, [Juan] Valera to return. When they’re back within the group, we’ll be even stronger.

“When opponents know your strengths, having played several games against them in a short time, you must raise your performance levels and try to win again.

“Let us regain normality first. Our reliance on hard work and commitment will get us results.

"From Monday, I’ll get to know the group better [as a result of their Copa del Rey elimination], but I’m very happy with them.

“As of next Sunday, we’ll concentrate more, have better training sessions and start counting the players who have re-joined the group.

“There are five or six players who are going to help us a lot when they return. With them, we’ll be more competitive.”
