Xavi on Cholo and Arda

Xavi Hernandez has reflected on Barcelona’s Copa del Rey progression and discussed incidents involving Diego Simeone and Arda Turan.

The midfielder spoke at a Press conference and looked back on the eventful win over Atletico Madrid and forward to the next round encounter with Villarreal.

“We’re happy because we qualified against great opponents,” Xavi confirmed.

“We’ve lost to Villarreal many times, so it’ll be a very difficult tie for us. We’re considered favourites and have to seize [the moment]. We’re pleased with how we are physically and what we’re doing.

“[The conduct and statements from Atletico players] neither fair nor unfair.

“[Diego Simeone’s hand gesture at the referee] is his understanding of football and way of life. He’s very intense, but obviously you must know how to play, how to win and how to lose.

“I’m surprised [Arda Turan didn’t get sent off] because it’s a red-card offence, but it’s up to the committee, not the players, who apply sanctions. For me, it was a red. They’re incidents which can cause outrage.”
