‘I’d change Rayo team in hindsight’

Paco Jemez was disappointed with Rayo Vallecano’s 2-1 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna and warned “If I could go back in time, I’d change some players”.

A debut double from Celso Borges earned the Galicians only their second away win of the season on Friday, despite Alberto Bueno’s equaliser midway through the first half.

“There’s no explanation for the match. It’s a game that you can’t lose but is hard to win,” the Coach said after the game.

“We need to do a lot in order to eliminate some of our mistakes and work all the hours needed for us to continue improving and do better.

"Today the team did what they could and tried their best, but I expected more. I apologise to the fans. All I can promise is that we’ll continue working to get this sorted soon.

“We’re a team who concede goals too easily, sometimes from penalties or otherwise. It makes winning games like this a lot harder.

“We’ve won games from our opponents’ mistakes. I must take responsibility for picking the team.

“For our next game, I’ll pick a better team because there’s plenty of room for improvement. If I could go back in time, I’d change some players, but I won’t say who.

“All in all, we could have done more. What worries me is that the team didn’t play the game I expected. [At Vallecas], we’ve had good games, but the result is what matters.”
