Batigol to follow Simeone’s lead

Gabriel Batistuta has revealed that he intends to pursue a career in management and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Diego Simeone.

The legendary striker was a teammate of the Atletico Madrid Coach in the Argentine national team during the 1990s and regularly faced him in Serie A.

“After 10 years without football, I want to start working again. I want to follow in the footsteps of my friend [Diego] Simeone,” Batigol told Sport360.

“My hunger is still there, and I’ll do my best if I go ahead with it. As a player, you can only do certain things on the pitch, but as a Coach you can show your players how to do those things.

“I’m looking for a good place to start. There’s too much pressure in Argentina and Italy. I prefer to start somewhere quieter.

“I had no doubts about Diego. He always loved football and loved to teach. I had no doubt that Diego would do great things, he inspired us all the time.

“He deserves everything that’s happening to him today. He loves the work and transmitting his philosophy to the players. I'm happy for him.”
