‘Farina doesn’t deserve Ronaldo ban’

Deportivo La Coruna Coach Victor Fernandez has criticised the LFP’s decision to slap Luis Farina with the same two-match ban as Cristiano Ronaldo’s.

The Argentine forward was caught up in a similar incident to the Real Madrid star’s during the Galicians’ 2-2 draw with Granada last week after he was shown a straight red card for striking Fran Rico in the face.

“The incidents don’t resemble each other, neither do the referees’ reports. We believe it should be just one game, not two,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“[Luis] apologised to his teammates and showed his face.  He acted like how a professional should act.

“It’s a human error, so we must overlook it this time and demand that it doesn’t happen again.”

Looking ahead to Deportivo’s trip to Rayo on Saturday, Fernandez issued a rallying cry to his team, urging them to ‘match’ their opponents’ intensity.

“Rayo are a team who fight like it’s all or nothing. Speculation doesn’t enter their dictionary, they simply want to go out and win every game,” he added.

“Out of those involved in the fight for relegation, Rayo are the best by far. Barring the monsters of La Liga [Real Madrid and Barcelona], they’re the team who best represent the passing game.

“I want my players to match their courage. We have to play very, very well to win.

“We must perfectly master our all-round game. You have to be very strong and hard when attacking and defending and remain patient because it’s very difficult to get the ball off Rayo.

“We’re going to have chances, and we’ll have to play compactly. Both teams have similar philosophies, so the match will be open.”
