Marcelino: Villarreal are dreaming

Marcelino says Villarreal are in dreamland after their historic progression into the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Thursday.

The Yellow Submarine reached the penultimate stage of the cup competition for the first time in their history courtesy of a two-legged victory over Getafe and will now face Barcelona in the last four.

“We’re exceeded our objectives,” the Coach told reporters after the match.

“We’re now in a situation where we’ve reached the [Copa] semi-finals for the first time in Villarreal’s history. We’re proud [of our feat], and I must thank my players.

“We now have two matches against tough opponents, who are perhaps in their best spell of the season, but no-one can take our dream [of reaching the final] away from us.

"We're going to play against Barcelona. The first match is at their stadium. It won’t be easy, but we’ll try to get a result to give ourselves the best chance of reaching the final when we play in front of our fans in the second leg.

“I feared that [Getafe] would take the lead. They had some [minor] chances in the first half and then at the restart.

“Getafe had the better of the game, caused us problems and it looked like they could equalise. We didn’t dominate the game, but the goal made everything easier.

“I’m only left with a bad taste when we play badly and lose. The opponents gave everything, worked well and at times surpassed us, but the pitch wasn’t good and it was very windy.

“We were serious [in our approach] and got a goal. I’m very pleased and proud of all the players.

"I think [Joel Campbell] was too hasty, perhaps we rushed him into the team. He must adapt and get into a level of optimum shape.

“He has to adapt to his teammates and the level of our demands, but the fact he helped us without being at an optimum physical level shows what he can give us.”
