Atleti player detained by police

Atletico Madrid defender Cristian Ansaldi was detained by police on his way to watch his team’s Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona on Wednesday.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Argentine [pictured, left], who was not part of Diego Simeone’s squad for the game, was stopped by police while driving to the Vicente Calderon and when asked for his documentation did not have it to hand.

A small argument then allegedly ensued, during which Ansaldi is believed to have caught a policeman’s hand as he slammed his car door, an action which resulted in him being taken to Arganzuela police station in Madrid, where a complaint was filed against him.

The 28-year-old is understood to have been released after midnight, causing him to miss the game, and left the station without wishing to comment.
