Bale: I play how I want

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has lashed out at critics who dislike his playing style. “I play the game my way and that's what I enjoy doing.”

The Welshman recently faced accusations of selfishness after he refused to play the ball on two occasions to Los Blancos teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who visibly showed his frustrations on the pitch, against Valencia and Espanyol.

“The truth is we don't know much [about what the media report], and I prefer not to read or hear anything in the media,” he mused to Cadena SER.

“I just focus on my football. At home, there's no talk of what [the media] says about me.

“People will have their opinion, it's their job. On the pitch, I give assists and score goals.

“I play the game my way and that's what I enjoy doing. Journalists can say what they want.

“Had I scored, no-one would've said anything. I saw Cristiano but found it difficult to pass to him. These things happen in football.

“These things have happened many times on a football pitch, with many teams.

“We didn't talk about it later [referring to Ronaldo's frustration against Espanyol]. What happens on the pitch stays there. No-one takes it personally after a match.

“When you're close to goal, you want to score, but sometimes things don't go your way. That's when you show your personality as a player.

“I'm happy and content with the fans' support. I hope to continue working hard in order to win every trophy possible.

“I just want to work hard on the pitch. I love playing at home, the fans encourage us to attack and score more goals, which is what I like. Every time I play at home, it excites me.”
