FIFA confirms Madrid investigation

FIFA has confirmed that Real Madrid are under investigation for alleged irregularities in the signing of young players.

Last season, world football’s governing body banned Barcelona from signing new players until January 2016 for breaching the regulations. However, no disciplinary proceedings have as yet been launched against Madrid.

“FIFA is currently gathering information and documents to be able to correctly evaluate this matter.

“For the moment no formal disciplinary proceedings have been opened. We are unable to provide any further information at this time,” a spokesperson for the organisation told   German press agency dpa.

For their part, Los Blancos say they are relaxed about the matter despite risking a considerable sanction if found guilty, as the club’s director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno explained.

“All I’ll say is that we are in agreement with FIFA over this. We’ve worked with them and shall continue to do so.

“We are absolutely confident in Real Madrid’s transfer dealings,” commented the former striker.
