Quique: ‘Getafe win a boost’

Getafe boss Quique Sanchez Flores admitted Monday night’s 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo had been a boost for his players.

The Madrid club ended their nine-game winless streak against Eduardo Berizzo’s men, who themselves have now gone 10 League games without winning, and have now moved up to 14th in the table.

Brazilian striker Charles put Celta ahead on the quarter-hour mark at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, only for Alvaro Vazquez to equalise four minutes later, but it was left to Pablo Sarabia to grab the winner five minutes from time after Diego Castro had missed an earlier spot-kick.

“This win was a boost for us but there are still a lot of games left and there will be many such as this,” Quique told a post-match Press conference.

“It was not an easy game because we were in a difficult situation. We needed to be committed, to use the ball, and we made a great effort.”

He was not as pleased with winger Castro, who hit the bar with a ‘Panenka-style’ penalty that should have wrapped things up for the hosts before they eventually sealed things.

“I said to myself that I couldn’t believe it. I spoke to him about it later and out of 15 penalties he has taken four have been like that, and they were all at critical moments.

“He’s experienced and there are less risky ways of doing it, but he’s an expert and we like him so I suppose we must respect that.”
