Djukic ‘proud’ of Cordoba

Miroslav Djukic believes Cordoba can be proud of their performance against Real Madrid after taking the League leaders to the limit.

Cordoba went in front through an early Nabil Ghilas penalty only for Karim Benzema to equalise before half-time and Gareth Bale to net a spot kick of his own in the dying moments.

Both sides were down to 10 men by that point, Cristiano Ronaldo sent off for a spat with the Cordoba defence and Fede shown a second yellow card for the handball that preceded the winning goal.

“I’m happy with the team’s work and the mentality,” Djukic said, according to AS.

“We took the game to our rival, played down their flanks. We had a very complete game and we can be proud of it. It’s a stimulus for our next matches.

“We tightened our lines and brought them together. We played well. Madrid’s bad performance is to our credit.

“I haven’t talked to Fede. The penalty caught me looking away and I can’t comment. It’s not worth it. The work is done and I want to keep the sensations of the team.

“I didn’t see Cristiano’s red either. I don’t know why he was sent off.

“A favour to the League? Winning would have been a favour to ourselves. We were very close to it and it feels great. We’re now convinced we can compete against everyone and we remain alert.

“We had more chances. The key was humility. The team was very together. We pressed and worked in triangles.”
