Madrid top football’s rich list

European champions Real Madrid have topped the Deloitte football rich list for a 10th successive year.

Madrid completed a double ‘La Decima’, having won Europe’s top prize against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon last May, and retained top spot with revenue of almost €550m.

At the same time they become the first club ever to pass the €200m mark for broadcast revenue.

However, eternal rivals Barcelona fall two places from the previous year, having been leapfrogged by Manchester United (€518m) and Bayern Munich (€487.5m).

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, move up five places to 15th with income of €169.9m, less than a third of cross-city rivals Real Madrid despite breaking the duopoly in Spain by winning La Liga and also reaching the final of the Champions League.

The total combined revenue for the top 20 richest clubs rose by 14 per cent to €6.2bn, the report found, while the only club from outside the ‘big five’ European Leagues to make the top 20 was Turkish outfit Galatasaray.
