Aguero puts Messi friendship on hold

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is putting his friendship with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi on hold until after their Champions League tie.

The pair have become close pals having spent a lot of time together with the Argentine national team, but Aguero is aiming to put one over on the Barca superstar when they face each other next month.

“It’s going to be an important game for me because I’ll be playing against my great friend Messi. But the second we step on the pitch that friendliness disappears,” the Manchester Evening News quotes him as saying at City’s warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi.

“The club has invested a lot of money to get as far as possible in the Champions League, although we know this will be a very difficult game.”

Aguero insisted that Sunday’s home defeat to Arsenal, which ended a 14-match unbeaten run, has not damaged morale.

“This team enjoys a high level of confidence. Yes, the result was not the best, but we think we have a great chance to turn things around with the Chelsea game coming up.”
