Simeone: ‘Attack key to Barca game’

Diego Simeone feels his team’s attacking strategy will be the key to the quarter-final Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Atletico Madrid boss, speaking to reporters ahead of the match at the Camp Nou, also believes that Barca have changed their style this season.

“The key will be how we work out our attacking strategy. If we can create chances as we want then I think we’ve got a chance,” explained the Argentine.

“But we’ll need to start better than in the recent League game because it was poor. We didn’t play with our usual intensity against a strong opponent, and that complicated things.

“We’ll be playing one of the best Barcelona sides of recent years. They’ve changed things around regarding the way they press the ball, which they give away less.

“They react quicker and close down spaces well. We know every minute is going to be vital for the return leg.”

Simeone was questioned over his future and whether he wanted to remain at Atleti.

“I’m fine and in the place where I want to be. I’m looking after a group of players who are hungry and have given me a big boost. The challenge to get even better is always there.

“This club has a fantastic future, with room to grow as a club, so I can relate to that and see myself as a part of it,” he concluded.
