Cristiano Ronaldo claims his surprising scream of joy on picking up his third Ballon d'Or was part of a joke with the rest of his Real Madrid teammates.
The Portuguese star told France Football that the noise he made is one the Madrid players make when they celebrate a goal.
“It was the noise we always make in celebrating a goal. We’ve been doing it for the last three years – in games, at training, all the time.
“Of course, not everybody understood why I did it, but I think it was nice. It was my way of involving my teammates and sharing the award with them.
“I’ve always had their backing, just as I have always got behind them. I’m a lucky guy and am part of the best dressing room I’ve been in since the start of my career,” he maintained.
