Karim Benzema claims Real Madrid’s winter championship proves they are the best team in Spanish football.
Los Blancos topped La Liga after the first round of fixtures thanks to their 3-0 victory over Getafe in Sunday’s early kick-off, but the striker admits their superiority will become increasingly difficult to maintain due to the defensive set-up of their opponents.
“We had to win after our elimination against Atletico,” he told reporters after the match.
“The only good thing [from our elimination] is that we get more rest. During the first half we tried hard, but Getafe defended well.
“I looked to Cristiano and went right up [to the byline] to help the team score their first goal. Tiredness is normal because we’ve played a lot of games.
“Real Madrid are the best team [in La Liga], although it’s always difficult for us because teams like to play deep against us.
“Under [Coach Carlo] Ancelotti, we’re always on the right track. I just dedicate myself to always being the best I can be.
“I’m happy to play with [Ronaldo], he’s the best player in the world.”
