Moyes ‘disappointed’ after Rayo defeat

David Moyes could not hide his disappointment after Real Sociedad’s 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

Manucho’s late header condemned the Scot to his first loss at Anoeta, but while the 51-year-old accepted La Real's setback, he was adamant that the side were on the right track under his stewardship.

“I’m disappointed to lose the game. We didn’t play well in the first half, improved in the second half and didn’t deserve to lose, but we played to win and didn’t give many chances away,” he said after the match.

“Sometimes you lose in football. If you don’t win games, you face a fight to avoid relegation.

“I told my players what I didn’t like about their performances in the dressing room. They were tired from the game against Villarreal, especially in the first half.

“Nothing has changed, we’ve always said that we’re looking to add players to the team, and if something comes up, we’ll pursue it.

“You can tell me what’s changed because you know how Coach before me performed. So far we’ve only lost one game [at home], and today we didn’t deserve to lose.

“I think the big disappointment was that we had the option to move closer to the top half, but instead we’re looking down the table.

“I hoped and still hope we can play well and move up the table. Remember that we beat Barcelona. We wanted to win again, but we got nothing and lost the game from a dead-ball situation.

“We’re very disappointed with the result today, but there’s been progress. The players have improved and have better attitudes.

“The fans say we’re trying to build something strong, and they’re proud of what we’re doing. [Our ambition] will be seen in the coming weeks.”
