Borges thrilled at Depor move

Cesar Borges says he is delighted to have signed for Deportivo la Coruna and to have been given the opportunity to play in La Liga.

The Costa Rica international has joined the Galicians on loan from Swedish outfit AIK for the rest of the season, with an option for a further two years, and the central midfielder could not hide his happiness at securing the move.

“It is a big step in my career, having played in Norway and Sweden, and I’m tremendously excited because playing in La Liga is the ultimate,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“This is the best thing that could have happened to me. As a sporting challenge it is super-attractive and fulfils I dream I had of playing in Spain. I’d like to thank Depor for giving me the chance.

“I’ve prepared my whole life to be able to play in a League like this, which is not to disrespect the Swedish League, and Depor is a big club with a lot of history.”

Borges revealed that it was his international teammate, Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who helped him accept Depor’s offer.

“We are in constant touch and we speak when we meet up with the national team. When I learned of the interest my first call was obviously to him and he spoke highly of the club, the people, and the treatment I’d receive, so I had no doubts,” he declared.
