Dani Alves could stay at Barca

Dani Alves’ former wife Dinorah Santa Ana, who is also his agent, says the Brazilian has still not decided whether to leave Barcelona this summer.

The 31-year-old’s contract at the Camp Nou expires in June and, in an interview with Sport, Santa Ana gave some clues as to his future intentions.

“Dani has not planned if he will stay or he will leave Barca. He is open to both options,” she revealed.

“We aren’t thinking he has to stay or go just because the club can’t sign players until next January. That’s up to Barca.

“If there’s an offer then two or three of us will have to sit down, evaluate it, and then decide.”

Whatever happens, Santa Ana insists Alves will remain dedicated to the Barcelona cause and that his commitment is total.

“Dani Alves has always been loyal to the club he has played for and he’s proved that over his career. Right now he has no preferences. The only clear thing is that he will continue to work for Barca until next June, full stop.

“He gets up every day for training and does his best to help the team. Everything else he leaves to me. Any external pressure regarding his future will not get us anywhere.”

In addition, Santa Ana defended Alves’ quality and the importance of him feeling wanted at whichever club he is playing for.

“Without sounding arrogant, Dani is the best right-back in the world, whatever they say, despite him not being selected [for the World XI] this year. He doesn’t need to worry because he will get work.

“He wants to be at a place he is wanted and feels comfortable. If not then so be it. He doesn’t feel bad here and is training well, although at the time they did not talk to him about a renewal.

“But that did not influence anything. What does influence things is whether he will continue at Barcelona or not and where his children will live next year,” she concluded.
