FIFA reaffirm Barca ban

The general manger of FIFA’s Transfer Matching System has confirmed its stance on Barcelona’s ban on signing players in the next two transfer windows.

The Catalans received the sanction due to irregularities in the way they signed young footballers from outside Spain, but Mark Goddard reiterated that the rules were the same for all clubs.

Relations between Barca and FIFA recently broke down after Blaugrana President Josep Maria Bartomeu announced the cutting of ties with world football’s ruling body, although Goddard defended the decision.

“This is a particularly important case for us and it shows the rules are the same for everyone,” Goddard was quoted as saying by Marca.

“Clubs are obliged to provide full details in the module for minors in our IT system and those players were not in the system. So where did those players come from?

“I don’t know what Barca have done with the players involved or if the club is attempting to correct the situation.”
