Arbeloa linked with Liverpool return

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa is being linked with a return to former club Liverpool in the January transfer window.

Reports in Spain suggest the Spain international is becoming increasingly frustrated at the Santiago Bernabeu, having made just five La Liga starts this term, and has recently been linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, the experienced 31-year-old is believed to favour a move to Anfield, where he played between January 2007 and July 2009, and is hoping to seal a move before the end of the transfer deadline in order to gain regular first-team football.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has overlooked Arbeloa this season in favour of Dani Carvajal and a move could be on the cards as Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers looks for a right-back to replace Glen Johnson.

The England international’s contract expires this summer and Arbeloa is seen as a short-term solution despite his advancing years.
