Ramos eyes his own Ballon d’Or

Sergio Ramos is looking at winning the Ballon d’Or himself after see Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo pick up the prize on Monday night.

The Spain international said he was happy at being selected in the ideal XI, but appears to have set his sets even higher for next year’s FIFA awards.

“I like to set myself high standards and 2014 was my best year, so I’d like to win this award one day,” he is quoted as saying by AS.

“My friend Fabio Cannavaro won it and he was defender. I also remember [Iker] Casillas, [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi [Hernandez], Raul [Gonzalez]… In 2015 I hope to get better and we won four titles last year, but this year I want to win six.

“It was a special day being selected in the ideal XI and on a personal level I see it as a reward for all the hard work put in.”

Ramos was informed that Ronaldo had voted for him to be included in the world’s best team.

“That’s great news. I’m really grateful as he knows how difficult it is to be up there with the best.

“We all feel responsible for him being able to collect his third Ballon d’Or and it’s great for him, the club and the Madrid fans.”
