‘Barca tidal wave still not over’

Luis Enrique was delighted with Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid on Sunday but maintained the ‘tidal wave’ was not over yet.

La Blaugrana ended a tumultuous week with a comprehensive win against the capital giants at Camp Nou, a result which saw them move three points clear of the La Liga champions in second place, but the Coach urged his team not to throw caution to the wind just yet.

“We have given a more than acceptable account of ourselves and beat a team who we couldn’t [beat] last season,” he said after the game.

“Every victory strengthens you, but don’t forget that these are only three points which prevented a direct rival from keeping up with us.

“Tthey are still only three points behind us, not 16, and we have to stay on the lookout for more chances [to pull clear].

“Playing at Camp Nou makes it easier for us to realise our ambitions, but we must also be strong away from home if we want to be successful.

“At home, our performance levels have been high, except against Celta, although that game was unfair, and we want to improve on them.

“Certainly a victory was all that could stop this tidal wave, but I’m not optimistic about when we fail again. The pressure coming back is inevitable, and there will be room [for error] again.

“The fans’ support was amazing. I don’t remember hearing such a thunderous reaction like theirs to the penalty award, so we need them. We’re stronger with them.

“Who’s in charge of the club? The shield, the dressing room, the fans, Camp Nou… you can choose anyone you want.

“I only focus on what I can control, conveying my ideas to the team and being as competitive as possible.

“At the end of season, we’ll see if we’ve done enough to win any trophies. Today we had a good game and I think we deserved even more against opponents who have always made it very difficult for us.”
