‘Impossible for Chelsea to sign Messi’

Steve Holland has admitted that it would be ‘impossible’ for Chelsea to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona on the current terms being bandied about.

Reports this week have claimed that the Blues could meet the Argentine’s €250m release clause, with the forward’s decision to follow the club on Instagram and his perceived unhappiness at Camp Nou seemingly enough of a reason for him to consider a move away.

Any deal to take Messi to Stamford Bridge, however, would likely contravene Financial Fair Play regulations, and the Chelsea assistant Coach concedes a transfer, as it stands, would not be feasible, with the No 10’s wages also proving a stumbling block.

“Jose has made it quite clear his expectations are that nobody comes and nobody goes during the transfer window. We’re perfectly happy with what we have,” Holland said in Jose Mourinho’s absence at a Press conference yesterday.

“It’s not a decision I personally would make. When you look at the numbers being mentioned around Messi, I would think it’s an impossible deal for any club working within the financial fair play rules.”
