Alcaraz: Depor clash not decisive

Lucas Alcaraz has insisted that Levante’s encounter with Deportivo La Coruna tonight will not decide their La Liga fate.

The Andalucian Coach replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar in October and led Les Granotes out of the relegation zone in his first few weeks at the helm, but his side have failed to win any of the eight matches preceding Depor's trip to Ciudad de Valencia.

“During the first 12 weeks, we were in the relegation zone. Now, we’re in an area of the table which we’ll find ourselves in for the rest of the season,” he said at a Press conference yesterday.

“We have to learn to live in that area [of the table]. We must be strong. If I didn’t think we were capable, I wouldn’t be here.

“With more success than not, 80 percent of the teams I’ve coached over the past 20 years have been able to meet objectives like [survival].

“We’ll go for the victory with great determination, but even winning won’t be definitive. Rather, it’ll be important.

“We must start the match well, but with a cool head because we’ll be in a similar situation for a long time.

“Deportivo are a good team in need of victory, with quality players in some positions and are coming off the back of beating tough opponents.

“We can survive with this squad. If someone comes along who can improve us [then we’ll consider it], but for now I’m just thinking about where we are in the table and why I’m here.”
