‘I wouldn’t sign Messi for Madrid’

Iker Casillas has revealed that he would not sign Lionel Messi for Real Madrid, even if the Barcelona star became available for transfer.

The 27-year-old has been linked with an exit from Camp Nou in recent days following a reported bust-up with Coach Luis Enrique, but the goalkeeper insists the Argentine is not needed by Los Blancos, neither does he believe that the Catalans are in crisis.

I don’t know if it’s true [referring to Messi and Enrique],” he told Cadena Cope.

“Would I sign Messi for Real Madrid? No. Right now, with the players we already have, we’re doing very well and achieving great things. I think he’s at home in Barcelona.

“I don’t think [Barca] are a club is in crisis. Honestly for what I see and how they are doing now, other things have been spoken about, rather than what’s on the pitch.

“Indeed, as they’re doing in the League, Cup and Champions League, I don’t think they’re in crisis.

“Maybe so if they were five or six points behind or already knocked out of the Copa or Champions League, but they’re still alive in all three competitions,.

“Neither do Real Madrid lead them by a wide margin in the League. It’s very tight [at the top].”
