Cordoba underrated says Trashorras

Rayo Vallecano captain Roberto Trashorras insists next Monday’s opponents Cordoba are better than their League position suggests.

The Andalusians have won just two Primera games this season but have shown a gradual improvement in recent weeks under Miroslav Djukic, sitting in 18th place and one point from safety, and Trashorras has warned of the dangers of underestimating them.

“This is a really important game for us as we are coming off the back of a win at Getafe, so we want to play well and win again against a team that are better than the table indicates,” Trashorras [pictured, bottom] told Mundo Deportivo.

“It’s going to be a difficult match but we want to keep on getting points to improve our League position. We place a lot of importance to the situation we are in, as do Cordoba.”

The clash at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas will be a special one for Rayo boss Paco Jemez, who grew up in Cordoba and has coached the club on two separate occasions, both times in La Segunda, as well as representing the Andalusians as a player.

“Paco was there and he has a special bond with the club, but beating them would leave us in a good position in mid-table and we could start to look upwards.

“Things look very different when you win games, although we’ve been playing well, but we have been punished for the mistakes we’ve made.

“However, we have done well overall and must continue playing as we did at Getafe, continue to improve, and think only about the three points,” he concluded.
