Report: Chelsea contact Messi’s dad

Chelsea have contacted Lionel Messi’s father to discuss a summer transfer to Stamford Bridge, according to RAC 1.

The radio station claims executives from the Premier League club have been alerted to the player’s situation at Barcelona, where his relationship with Coach Luis Enrique has hit an all-time low following his demotion to the bench for Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad.

As a result, Messi’s father Jorge has been sounded out by the Blues and a report in Sport also insists the Londoners would be willing to pay the buyout clause in the Argentine star’s contract, understood to be €250m.

From Chelsea’s viewpoint they would be getting a player who at 27 is at the peak of his career and arguably the world’s best player, while Messi’s relationship with former Barca teammate Cesc Fabregas, now at Chelsea, could also swing any possible move.

In addition, Messi is believed to be increasingly concerned over his off the field problems, having had issues with the Spanish tax authorities alongside his father for the past two years.
