Moyes eyeing Copa del Rey run

Real Sociedad boss David Moyes says he would love to go on and win the Copa del Rey for the club this season.

The former Everton and Manchester United chief takes his players to El Madrigal on Wednesday for the first-leg clash with Villarreal – the only side to have beaten the Scot since his arrival at Anoeta – and feels there is an upbeat mood among the squad after the 1-0 weekend defeat of Barcelona.

“The win over Barca was important for us and great for our confidence, but this team has also beaten Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid and maybe didn’t go on to show what kind of side it was after those victories,” Moyes told a Press conference.

“The players are in great spirits and if it was possible I’d love to go on and win the Cup, so I’ll be telling them we want to stay in the competition as long as we can.

“I want to build up some momentum in the League and Cup, because ultimately what we are trying to do is get back-to-back wins.

“We don’t have a big squad but place a lot of importance on our youngsters and want to promote them when we get the opportunity to do so. We feel that’s the right thing to do."
