Wigan’s Riera to join Deportivo

Wigan Athletic striker Oriol Riera has confirmed that he is set to join Deportivo La Coruna.

The 28-year-old has scored just one goal for the Latics since arriving from Osasuna for £2m over the summer, and while he revealed his disappointment with the outcome of his spell in British football, he was glad about returning to La Liga.

"The last 15 days have been very intense. I had options and, ultimately, in my career, I’ve chosen the clubs who I think have suited me best,” the forward told reporters.

“The city, club, style of play and culture make Deportivo the best place for me to continue growing and improving each year. I hope it's a good choice.

“People from both inside and outside the club have spoken highly about Deportivo, and it’s another reason why I’ve accepted their offer.

“I’m match-sharp and prepared for anything. I’m competing with two good strikers [Toche and Helder Postiga], and we can all score goals.

“In England, it was a radical change in culture and lifestyle, and I haven’t been lucky enough to prove myself.

“The more difficult the challenge, the better it sounds. Last year I couldn’t get it, I had a bad final season at Osasuna and I hope it doesn’t happen here.”

Depor moved out of the relegation places at the weekend courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.
