Garitano ‘expected’ Eibar progress

Gaizka Garitano revealed he ‘expected’ Eibar to flourish in their debut La Liga campaign following Sunday’s 2-1 win at Espanyol.

The Basque minnows have acclimatised to the Spanish top flight like a duck to water and moved up to eighth in the table thanks to their victory at the Power8 Stadium this weekend – the side's fourth away success of the season.

“I expected Eibar to have 23 points at this stage of the season because they’ve earned it,” the Coach said after the game.

“These are three important points and we’re still on the right track. The team leave me feeling good after each game.

“However, we can’t relax just yet because we still have much suffering to endure. Espanyol controlled the end of the match [after Felipe Caicedo’s goal].

“It was a new opportunity for some players, everyone knows their role.  We’re a team who prefer to play away from home.

“We’re more comfortable away because we have quick forwards and a strong defence. At home, we don’t get much space, so we need more quality when we do and run into more space.”
