Ancelotti rues Madrid misfortune

Carlo Ancelotti lamented Real Madrid’s misfortune following their 2-1 defeat to Valencia on Sunday. “We weren’t lucky enough.”

Los Blancos saw their 22-match winning streak come to an end at Mestalla, courtesy of second-half goals from Antonio Barragan and Nicolas Otamendi, but the Coach, despite his proclamations, paid tribute to Los Che for a spirited performance.

“We had a good game and didn’t deserve to lose, but we weren’t lucky enough to score from the chances we had,” he said after the game.

“We didn’t take our opportunities. In football anything can happen. The team's work was good.

“It’s a defeat which we eventually had to suffer, but let us not forget what we’ve achieved already. Congratulations to Valencia, they fought hard.

“We have to put the best possible team out to win on Wednesday. Physically the team have been good.

“The season is long and we’re well positioned. The defeat doesn’t affect us. We’ll put what we’ve done so well behind us.

“The referee had a very good match, given he had a lot of pressure from the fans and many kicks [to deal with].”
