Emery unhappy despite victory

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery was critical of his team despite the 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo, saying it’s not enough just to win.

Nico Pareja scored the only goal at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with the visitors by that point down to 10 men after Carles Planas was dismissed after 20 minutes.

Emery told reports post-match that with Celta a man light, he side should have had a straightforward performance and pointed the finger at their extended winter break after Sevilla’s last game of 2014 was moved due to Real Madrid’s Club World Cup commitments.

“We can’t just be satisfied with the result. We have to be self-critical,” he said, according to AS.

“We should have had a less troublesome game since we had one more player than they did.

“We’ve gone three weeks without playing, which is almost a pre-season. Celta looked fresher, more dynamic and with more rhythm.

“We knew we had a difficult rival but I didn’t expect us to be so slow. It’s a shame that we didn’t play a better match. The reality is that we haven’t played well.”

Emery added that while Stephane Mbia has suffered a hamstring injury, it’s not yet known how severe the problem is.
