‘Celta face season-defining spell’

Eduardo Berizzo believes Celta Vigo’s trip to Sevilla on Saturday is the first match of a season-defining spell for the club.

The Galicians’ strong start to the campaign has been overshadowed by five straight defeats in La Liga, and the Coach has challenged his players to turn around their fortunes in their next few matches.

“We come from a negative run of results, which bothers us and forces us to take action,” he told reporters yesterday.

“Now we have a series of matches against Sevilla and Valencia in the League and two against Athletic in the Copa, which will shape our season.

“We must be intense in games against experienced teams, so we have to play our best football, take our chances and don’t give our rivals any space.

“Sevilla are a great team, who move the ball around very well, with two very aggressive defensive pivots, when retrieving the ball back, and two very quick wingers.

“We must be careful with Sevilla’s counterattacks, so we must be able to finish our chances.

"Our style of play is still good and I believe in it. I think the best way for us to win games is to play like we have done.”
